DARREN LAW PRESS RELEASES - 2013

SEPTEMBER 25, 2013
SPORT CAR MARTINSVILLE

Darren Law will be behind the mic again this weekend, providing pit-lane reports for the FOX Sports telecasts of the final 2013 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge races from Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn.

With the Rolex Series merging into the United SportsCar Championship in 2014, the Lime Rock race will be both season and series finale. As the only driver who competed in the first 161 Rolex Series races, from the series inception in 2001 through January this year, Law will have many memories as he walks the grid at Lime Rock.

"It's more than just the final race of the season; it's the final race of the series," he said.

"It will be cool to look back on the start of the series. I was there from day one, I've driven both GT and prototype cars, watched the evolution of the DP car from where it was to where it is today. Things that will really stand out for me are the wins in the endurance events like the Daytona 24-hour and the six-hours at Watkins Glen. Also, I have made so many friends over the years in both of the series, they are really like my 'other family'. I am really looking forward to the unification of sports-car racing and plan to be involved with it for many more years."

With every class championship in both series still to be decided, Law's experience will give FOX Sports fans an inside view of all the action.

"There's a lot on the line and hopefully I can give some insight into the mental aspect of fighting for the championships coming down to the last race. For every single class, the points are undecided so far; it's come down to the final event. That's pretty nerve-wracking," he explained.

"There are many different approaches to this final weekend for the drivers and teams, depending on where they sit in the championship. For some it is a win at all costs, some only need to finish the race and others will be racing just one car to secure the proper points."

The short 1.5-mile Lime Rock road course will add to the drama.

"It's a tough track for those cars – they're so fast and the track is so short. It's sports cars' Martinsville," Law said, referring to the popular half-mile Virginia speedway that hosts NASCAR events. "There's never a shortage of excitement at Lime Rock. This usually makes for a great spectator event, but it also adds another element of stress for those in the championship hunt."
